Beach Volleyball: Team Sazamm, Customs Triumph In 2020 President Cup

Team Sazamm and the Nigeria Customs Service have respectively emerged champions of the men and women’s categories of the just concluded 2020 President Beach Volleyball Cup in Kaduna.

The duo of Godwin Shekaru and Andrew Sunday (Sazamm) scored an easy victory  over the pair of Abdulrasheed Ahamed and Idika Kalu (Gallant) triumphing 2-0 (21-15,21-13) to win the men’s final.

Amara Uchechukwu and Francisca Ikhiede of the Nigeria Customs Service easily dispatched the duo of Scholastica Torkaa and Tyoakaa Doom of Benue state 2-0 (21-7, 21-12) to win the women’s final.

Reacting to their win, Custom’s Francisca Ikhiede said their runout in the President Cup was perfect preparation for next month’s Beach Volleyball Olympic qualifiers in Abuja.

“The Competition has ended and we won the maiden edition of the President Cup. This competition has helped us regain our forms after a few weeks of inactivity and has put us in shape ahead of next month’s women’s Olympic in Abuja,” Ikhiede told journalists in Abuja.

“We know what is at stake and we will put our best. The Sports Secretary of NCS, Samuel Onikeku is doing his best also to ensure there are no issues for us. He made sure I and my partner featured in the President Cup”.

Elsewhere, Shinning Swords of Benue State made it a clean sweep with both gold medals in the U19 Boys and Girls Category.

The Benue State team came from behind to beat Kogi State 2-1 (14-16, 17-15, 11-5) in the U19 girls final while the boys’ team overpowered Team Anista 2-1 (12-15, 15-8, 14-12) in the other final.
