
Arsenal have booked their place in the last eight of the UEFA Europa League (UEL) after they defeated former European champions AC Milan 5-1 on aggregate in their round of 16 tie.
The Gunners were in the driving seat ahead of the 2nd leg having won the away leg 2-0 but they didn’t have things their own way following Hakan Calhanoglu’s 36th minute opener.
Much maligned England international striker Danny Welbeck won and scored a controversial penalty three minutes later before further goals from Granit Xhaka and Welbeck handed Arsenal a comprehensive 3-1 victory on the night and a 5-1 aggregate win.
In the pick of the other late UEL games, RB Salzburg sealed a quarterfinal berth with a goalless draw with favourites Borussia Dortmund having won the away leg 2-1.
