Aribo, Balogun Shine As Rangers Strengthen Bid For 1st League Title In 10yrs

Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun starred as Rangers capitalised on rivals Celtic’s slip up on Saturday to open up an eleven point lead in the Scottish Premiership with a 4-0 thrashing of Aberdeen at the Ibrox Stadium on Sunday.

Aribo making his seventh start and eighth appearance in the league lasted 74 minutes before being replaced by Ianis Hagi while Balogun was on for the duration as the Gers kept a sixth straight shutout in the league.

Ryan Kent and Kemar Roofe put Steven Gerrard’s side two goals up at half time and Scott Airfield added a third four minutes after then interval before captain James Tarvenier completed the rout with a penalty in the 53rd minute.

It was yet another impressive statement from the Gers following their biggest win of the season in the 8-0 demolition of Hamilton before the international break, and Rangers are making it clear they’re serious about a first league title in ten years.

Celtic, who fought back from two goals down to draw at Hibernian on Saturday find their bid for a 10th straight league title under threat but they have two games in hand and can cut Rangers’ lead with victories in each.
