The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reacted to the death of Nassarawa United’s defender Chineme Martins.

Chineme Martins was confirmed dead at the Dalhatu-Araf Specialist Hospital after slumping at the pitch in a matchday 23 Nigeria Professional League encounter between the Solid Miners and Katsina United which ended 3-0 in favour of the host.

The NFF said it had alongside the Ministry of Youths and Sports engaged the League Management Company (LMC) to swiftly review the situation and proffer a stop-gap solution to avoid any reoccurrence in the interim.

The NFF has in conjunction with the Ministry of Sports engaged the LMC and reviewed the situation.” It tweeted.

According to reports, Martins would have had a chance to live if had been given proper Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or swiftly rushed to the hospital.

In a reactionary approach, the NFF has ordered that clubs, henceforth, meet with its licensing rules.

“As an immediate first step, the NFF has directed that no further match be played except there is a full complement of the medical equipment and personnel as provided in the NFF Club Licensing Regulations.

All Match Commissioners and the host FA are to ensure they inspect all the facilities including carrying out test runs before giving go-ahead for any match to be played.” the NFF ordered.
