African Senior Athletics Championship In Total Chaos As Several Events Get Postponed

The 2018 CAA African Senior Athletics Championship in Asaba, Delta State is in total chaos after organisers postponed several events initially scheduled for the opening day of the competition (Wednesday, August 1).

According to the organisers, the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), fourteen of the seventeen events scheduled for Day 1 of the Africa Senior Athletics Champions have been cancelled and would be rescheduled to fit into the other days of the competition.

The other three events have been moved from the morning session to the afternoon session.

Those events which include the women’s 100m heats, men’s 100m heats and 10,000m final events will now start at 3pm from the initially scheduled 9am start time.

The change in schedule was conveyed in a statement signed by the General secretary of the CAA, Lamine Faty.

According to the African Athletics body, the cancellation was due to organisational challenges.

The CAA statement read in part: “Due to some organizing problems it was decided to cancel Day one (1) of the competitions programme for round one (1) of the 100m events, Men and Women and the 10000m Men final event. There will be a reschedule of the rest of the program to sit into the remaining four days.”
