Euro 2020: Italy See Off Brave Austria After Extra Time

Italy required extra time to beat a resolute Austria at Wembley and set up a Euro 2020 quarter-final against Belgium or Portugal.

Marko Arnautovic’s headed goal was disallowed after a VAR check for offside in normal time with the game goalless before substitutes Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina scored in extra time to send Italy through.

Chiesa showed terrific technique to bring the ball down and beat Daniel Bachmann l while Pessina, who was not even in Italy’s original squad for the competition doubled the score with his second goal of the tournament.

Austria pulled a goal back through Sasa Kalajdzic’s stopping header, the first goal Italy have conceded in 12 games, but the Azzurri held on for the win.
