Nigeria vs Sierra Leone: Osimhen Assures Of Victory (AUDIO)

Victor Osimhen has assured fans of victory against Sierra Leone but cautioned that Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier will be far from a walk in the park for the Super Eagles.

Nigeria will seal a place at the AFCON in Cameroon with victory over the Leone Stars on Friday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and again four days later in Free Town.

And with preparations in full gear after all twenty three players reported to camp, Africa’s most expensive player Osimhen who is back in the squad after missing the friendlies against Algeria and Tunisia, says fans should expect the Super Eagles to pick up all three points against the Leone Stars.

“Of course [Nigerians should expect nothing but victory] but to be realistic the game will never be easy,” Osimhen said after Thursday’s training session. “So we have to prepare well, which we have been doing and its good for me to be back in the squad and I think we are all ready and we will give our all for this win.”

The match at the Samuel Ogbemudia will be the Super Eagles’ first at the ground in nine years but the occasion will be shorn of fans after CAF ruled out spectators to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Napoli record buy Osimhen said while it would be strange to not have fans in the stadium, the gravity of the coronavirus pandemic calls for understanding and called for fans to support the team nonetheless.

“For me its kind if disappointing but we understand the Covid situation, it’s important for them to support us from home and anywhere they are.

“But for their presence, not being with us in the stadium it’s kind of disappointing but we can understand the situation. It’s fine.”

Osimhen is Nigeria’s top scorer in the qualifiers after hitting three goals in the series – a penalty against Benin Republic and a brace against Lesotho.

And while the former Lille hitman would love to continue his one hundred percent record in front of goal, he stressed that the team’s goals come first and his target if given the nod to start, would be to help the team collect maximum points.

“I think my goals will come, obviously, but the team victory comes first before my personal ambition and I just want to help the team if I’m featured in this game and I’m looking forward to the game.”
