Sevilla Win El Gran Derby As LaLiga Returns

Lucas Ocampos scored and provided an assist as Sevilla took bragging rights in the El Gran Derby against Real Betis on the first day of LaLiga resumption after a three-month hiatus.

The game was behind closed doors, but groups of fans ignored social distancing guidelines to gather outside the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium before kick off.

The teams observed a minute’s silence in memory of those who have died during the coronavirus pandemic before kick off.

LaLiga introduced a number of innovations to create a vibrant atmosphere for the derby by introducing artificial crowd noise just like in the German Bundesliga.

The empty stands were also painted in ‘virtual support’ to give an appearance of fans wearing club colours.

Ocampos was on fire throughout and hit the crossbar in the first half before breaking the deadlock from the penalty spot after the interval.

He then laid on an assist for Fernando for the game-sealing goal with a glorious backheeled flick.

The win strengthened Sevilla Champions League pursuit as the home side are now within six points of second-placed Real Madrid.

Leaders Barcelona are in action for the first time on Saturday, while Real Madrid play on Sunday.
