2022 FIFA WCQ: Super Eagles Maintain Unbeaten Start With Victory In Cape Verde

Nigeria’s Super Eagles edged Cape Verde 2-1 in Mindelo on Tuesday to maintain their one hundred per cent record in Group C of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Eagles captain Ahmed Musa was restored to the starting eleven on the occasion of his 100th cap after coming on as a substitute in last week’s 2-0 victory over Liberia in Lagos.

Cape Verde went ahead in the 20th minute when Dylan Tabares beat Maduka Okoye but Napoli striker Victor Osimhen restored parity for the three-time African champions ten minutes later.

A Rocha Santos own-goal in the 76th minute gave Nigeria a lead they didn’t relinquish to claim three points for the second straight game in the qualifiers.

The victory extends Nigeria’s lead on top of Group C to three points ahead of Liberia who beat the Central Africa Republic (CAR) 1-0 earlier.

Nigeria will next face the Central Africa Republic in a doubleheader with the match at home on 9 October before travelling for the reverse fixture three days later.
