Sunday Dare: I Won’t Be A “Football Minister”

Nigeria’s Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare has acknowledged that football is bigger in the country than any other sports but however assured that his administration was not just about the round leather game.

Dare who was appointed to take over from former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung in 2019 has severally expressed his desire to give attention to sports other than football.
, says his ministry is working towards developing other sports in Nigeria.

“Football is king, I know, but we have also realised that we have talents in boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, gymnastics and recently we realized that we also have talents in canoeing,” he said on Channels TV’ Sports Hour.

“We are not just all about football that’s why we have made grassroots sports development, talent hunt one of our core areas. So, we’re not just about football.” He maintained.

The former Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) personnel hinted his administration will focus on 28 different sports which he believes will bring glory to Nigeria.
