EXCLUSIVE: Saudi Arabia Is Good For Me – Anaemena (AUDIO)

Former Enyimba defender Ifeanyi Anaemena says Saudi Arabia is a ‘good place for me to start my football outside Nigeria’, after he completed a move to first division side Al Nahda.

Last week, the 29-year-old Anaemena joined the Saudi second-tier side on a one-year deal from Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) outfit Rivers United.

It is the first time the all-action centre-back will be playing professional football abroad, following spells with Giwa FC (now defunct), Enyimba and Rivers United in the NPFL.

Speaking exclusively to www.busybuddiesng.com from his new base in Dammam, the Super Eagles defender said he is hopeful of getting a ‘better offer’ if he performs well at Al Nahda.

“I think it’s important when an offer comes for you, especially, having played in the NPFL for a long time, and I have been expecting to play outside the shores of Nigeria,” Anaemena said.

“I think Saudi Arabia is a good environment for me – a good place for me to start my football outside Nigeria. And when the offer came, I had to take it and grab it with two hands.

“And given a good trial in this first season, I think if I do well, I will get a better offer. And I think it is good for me at the moment.”

Last season, the hard-tackling defender helped Rivers United finish second in the NPFL, securing CAF Champions League football.

At Enyimba, Anaemena won two league titles (in 2015 and 2019) and also helped the 2-time African Champions reach the semi-finals of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup.
