Van Dijk Beats Messi And Ronaldo To UEFA Player of the Year Award

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been voted the best player in Europe ahead of mainstays Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo at the UEFA Champions League draw on Thursday in Monaco.

The Dutch player who was also voted the PFA Player of the Year last season was instrumental in Liverpool’s run to the title and also picked up the award for Best Defender.

The Women’s award was won by England’s Lucy Bronze who plays for record winners of the competition Olympique Lyonnais.

Former Manchester United legend Eric Cantona received the UEFA President’s Award.
