World number nine, Venus Williams needed a dramatic final set tie breaker victory over Czech’s Petra Kvitova to reach her 23rd career Grand Slam semi-final.
37-year-old Venus defeated Kvitova 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-2) in two hours and 35 minutes to make her first US Open semi final in seven years.
Speaking immediately after the game, Venus said: “I was so fortunate to win that match,”
“It came down to the wire and I’m hoping we have more matches like that.”

Next up for Venus Williams is fellow American, Sloane Stephens, who Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-4) to reach her first career Grand Slam semi final.
