Tottenham Start Premier League Campaign With Victory

North London giants Tottenham Hotspur opened their season with a win following a 2-1 win over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in the second match of the new Premier League season.

All the three goals came within the first eighteen minutes as Tottenham emerged on the positive side of the divide.

Tottenham took the lead through a header from Belgian centre back Jan Vertonghen on eight minutes

Centre referee Martin Atkinson awarded the goal with the help of Goal-line Technology (GLT).

Newcastle United bounced back almost immediately after Joselu converted Matt Ritchie’s devilish cross in the 11th minute only for Tottenham to regain the lead seven minutes later from the third header of the game off Nigerian-born England international Dele Alli.

Tottenham were good value for their first half lead but their hosts improved after the break and were unlucky not to get at least a point as Mohamed Diame and substitute Salomon Rondon struck the post in the second half.

With the win, Tottenham Hotspur join Manchester United as early leaders at the top of the table after the Red Devils defeated Leicester City 2-1 in the 2018/19 Premier League opener on Friday night.
