The Most Expensive Nigerian Footballers of All Time

The 2019/2020 transfer window produced the best deals for many Nigerian footballers as Alexander Iwobi’s recent move from Arsenal to Everton on dateline day of the 2019 summer window made the 23-year-old the most expensive Arsenal player of all time at £40M.

Iwobi’s £40m transfer to Everton beats the £34.2m Liverpool paid Arsenal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in 2017.

The deal was reported to be worth £40m becoming the most expensive deal sealed by any Nigerian footballer.

Kelechi Iheanacho broke the then-record of most expensive Nigerian footballers of all-time when he sealed a move from Manchester City to Leicester.

The former U-17 champion switched the Etihad for the King Power for £25m.

But the record is now broken by his national teammate, Alex Iwobi.

Ademola Lookman sealed a permanent move from Everton to RB Leipzig after spending last season on loan at the German club, making eleven appearances and scoring five goals.

Leipzig who have qualified to play in the UEFA Champions League snapped up the young star for £22.5m, the third most expensive deal by a Nigerian.

The young lad who has represented England in the age-grade levels is still eligible to play for Nigeria as he is of Nigerian descent.

On the back of a fine 2016/2017 campaign for Watford, on 31 January 2017, Ighalo joined Chinese Super League club Changchun Yatai for a reported £20 million. He ranked second in the scoring charts in his second season but his team suffered relegation.
