The staggering fee Brazilian superstar Neymar will receive from French side Paris Saint Germain (PSG) if he wins the Ballon d’Or.
Neymar, 25, became the most expensive player in world football after he secured a £199m move from Barcelona to PSG in the summer.
According to popular French media outlet Le Parisien , the former Santos forward will pocket €3million If he wins this year’s Ballon d’Or ahead of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo and Messi have won the last nine editions and they have both been named on a 30-man shortlist alongside Neymar.
The astonishing thing about the Ballon d’Or win clause in Neymar’s contract with PSG is that it’s not a one-off payment.
He will claim the bonus each time he wins the award until 2022 when his current deal at the Parc des Princes will expire.
The closest he has gone to winning the award was in 2015 when he finished in third position behind Messi and Ronaldo.
The €3million bonus equates to his monthly wages at PSG.
Neymar has previously been vocal about his desire to win the Ballon d’Or. Speaking on the award last year, He said:
“To win the Ballon d’Or is something that I’ve set as a goal, it would be a personal victory. But I’m not in a hurry.”
His Ballon d’Or wish was backed by PSG manager Unai Emery.
“Neymar is a player with many qualities -he is able to win the Ballon d’Or. We want the best for him and to help him win this trophy.” Emery said last week.
