Spanish La Liga Review: Atletico, Valencia Narrow Gap On Leaders Barcelona With Respective Victories

Atletico Madrid and Valencia have closed the gap on league leaders Barcelona to six and eight points respectively following the wins recorded by both sides on Saturday.

Diego Simeone’s men defeated city rivals Getafe 2-0 at the new Wanda Metropolitano with goals from Angel Correa and Diego Costa in either half.

Former Chelsea striker Costa made it two goals in two appearances with his second half strike before he got sent off for two yellow cards immediately after scoring for celebrating his goal excessively having being booked earlier as Atletico finished the game with ten men.

However, Valencia didn’t have it their own way like Atletico as they had to come from a goal down to beat Girona 2-1 at home.

The visitors took an early lead through Cristian Portu but a Jonas Ramalho own goal in the first half and a Dani Parejo strike after the break ensured that Valencia tool the three points available.
