Italian Serie A and reigning league champions Napoli have sent congratulatory messages to Victor Osimhen for winning the 2023 CAF Player of the Year award.

On Monday in Marrakech, Morocco, Osimhen became the first Nigerian since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999 to win the award.

The Super Eagles striker beat two-time winner of the award Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi to become the new recipient.

He is now the fifth Nigerian men’s player to be crowned the best player in Africa.

Reacting to Osimhen being announced as the winner, Serie A wrote:”Presenting Victor Osimhen, the 2023 @CAF_Online Men’s Player of the Year! .”

While Napoli wrote:” -.

“ #Osimhen is the men’s player of the year. Congrats, Victor!”
