Semi Ajayi was colossal in defence as West Bromwich Albion kept a clean sheet and secured a first win in the Premier League this season with victory against Sheffield United at The Hawthorns on Sunday.

The Super Eagles centre back, making his ninth start of the campaign, played on the right of a three-man defence as the Baggies beat the Blades to move out of the relegation zone.

Conor Gallagher scored what proved to be the winner in the 13th minute.

Ajayi won three of five ground duels and two of three aerial duels to help West Brom withstand a late Sheffield United barrage.

The win lifts the Baggies to 17th in the table, one point above safety while Sheffield United, still without a win all season stay bottom.
