Semi Ajayi Goal Stuns Liverpool As West Brom Earn Point At Anfield

Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi scored a dramatic late equaliser at Anfield to stun Liverpool and help Sam Allardyce earn his first point as West Brom boss.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were on the way to a routine victory which would have seen them go five points clear at the top of the table when Sadio Mane scored from Joel Matip’s assist.

The Reds dominated for long periods without adding to their lead but the Baggies rallied after the break and equalised in the 83rd minute.

Ajayi showed incredible athletic ability to rise above the home defence to power a header in off the post to spark jubilant celebrations from the away team at Anfield.

It was the second time the Nigerian will be involved in a goal at the home ground of a title contender after his deflected effort earned the Baggies a point at Manchester City in Slaven Bilic’s last game in charge. Ajayi has now given Allardyce his first point as West Brom manager.

West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone denied Roberto Firmino late on to ensure the Baggies bagged a share of the spoils at Anfield.

Liverpool still remain at the helm of the league with 32 points but the draw means city rivals Everton are just three points behind.

West Brom, meanwhile, remain mired in relegation trouble in 19th place with eight points, five points from safety.
