Rocky Johnson, Father Of WWE Legend “The Rock” Dies At 75

WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has lost his father Rocky Johnson who passed away late on Wednesday at the age of 75.

Rocky Johnson was a huge wrestling star in his own right and was inducted into the WWE hall of fame in 2008 by his superstar son.

The cause of death is unknown at the time of writing and his son, The Rock, is yet to put out an official statement acknowledging his father’s demise.

However, a statement on the WWE website read: “WWE is saddened to learn that Rocky ‘Soul Man’ Johnson, a WWE Hall of Famer, former World Tag Team Champion, and father of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, has passed away at age 75.

“In 2008, Johnson achieved the highest honor in sports-entertainment when he was inducted by The Rock into the WWE Hall of Fame where he will be forever enshrined as one of sports-entertainment’s most influential performers.

“WWE extends its condolences to Johnson’s family, friends and fans.”

Rocky Johson, born Wayde Douglas Bowles, was a trailblazing pioneer in the world of professional wrestling where he began his career in the 1960s.

He won numerous regional championships and tag-team championships in the National Wrestling Alliance before moving to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF – as the WWE was then known).

With partner Tony Atlas, Johnson was part of the first blag tag-team to win a worlds championship in the World Wrestling Federation.

After retiring in 1991, Johnson trained his son Dwayne to wrestle.

The Rock went onto become one of the most loved and best wrestlers ever, before becoming a huge Hollywood star.

Many current and former wrestling greats took to Twitter to express their condolences and pay tribute to the legendary wrestler as news of the sad event broke.
