Osaka Beats Brady To Win Australian Open Title

Naomi Osaka confirmed her status as the leading player in the women’s game by dominating Jennifer Brady in the Australian Open final to win her fourth Grand Slam title.

Japanese Osaka, 23, is yet to lose a Grand Slam and cruised to a 6-4 6-3 win in Melbourne.

The third seed edged the first set, her experience telling Brady whose glaring errors in the final game betrayed her nervousness in her first major final.

It was all Osaka from that point, as she raced to a 4-0 ahead in the second set before sealing a deserved victory.

Osaka has now won two Australian Open titles after also triumphing at Melbourne Park in 2019, with her other Grand Slam successes coming at the US Open in 2018 and 2020.

She has not suffered a defeat since February 2020 after winning her past 20 matches.

She clinched the title after Brady went long on the first match point.

Osaka remained outwardly calm, smiling and raising her racquet above her head as her box erupted in celebration.
