Real Madrid Start La Liga Bid With Derby Win Over Getafe

European champions Real Madrid started their bid to wrestle the Spanish La Liga title back from arch rivals Barcelona on a winning note following the 2-0 win at home to Getafe at the Estadio Santiago Bernebeu on Sunday night.

Spanish defender Daniel Carvajal and Gareth Bale scored either side of halftime to give the Los Merengues an important Madrid Derby win over Getafe.

The derby was Julen Lopetegui’s first league game in charge since his appointment as Real Madrid manager in the summer.

The win takes Real Madrid to fourth spot behind Sevilla, Barcelona and Levante on the opening weekend of the new Spanish La Liga season.

In the earlier games played on Sunday, new summer signing Andre Silva netted a treble on his debut for Sevilla as he helped the team to a 4-1 victory at Rayo Vallecano, while newly promoted outfit SD Huesca won 2-1 at Eibar in what was the first game of the day.

Portuguese striker Andre Silva is on a season-long loan from Italian Serie A giants and seven-time European champions AC Milan.
