Enyimba Secure Vital Win At Djoliba To Edge Closer To CAFCC Knockout Stage

Two-time African champions Enyimba FC of Aba have moved closer to the knockout stage of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) following their late 1-0 win over AC Djoliba of Mali in a Matchday 5 clash played at the Stade Modibo Keita in Bamako.

Farouk Mohammed was the hero for the Aba Elephants as he scored a last gasp penalty to give the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) giants their first away points in Group C.

Enyimba won the penalty on the stroke of full-time after Sunday Adetunji was upended in the box.

The vital win takes from third spot to second spot, which represents one of the places for knockout stage qualification, while the Malians have been eliminated.

The top two Group C teams qualify for the quarterfinals.

In the other group game, CARA Brazzaville defeated Ivorian side Williamsville 3-1 to usurp their opponents at the top of the table.

Matchday 6 (last matchday) promises to be suspense-filled when the trio of CARA Brazzaville, Enyimba and Williamsville will fight for the top two positions.

Enyimba will host the table toppers CARA Brazzaville knowing that only a win would guarantee qualification for the quarterfinals, while Williamsville of Ivory Coast will entertain bottom team Djoliba of Mali.
