Prudent Energy Handball Premier League 2020: Borno Spiders Stun Lagos Seasiders

Heavyweights Lagos Seasiders were stunned 25-26 by lowly Borno Spiders on day three of the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Monday.

The Lagos side who are viewed as one of the favourites were outfought by a determined Spiders team who clung on to seal a one point victory.

Other matches in the men’s category saw champions Kano Pillars return to winning ways with a comprehensive 31-21 victory over COAS Shooters while De Defenders defeated Rima Strikers 29-22 and Plateau Vipers defeated Kada Stars 23-19.

In the women’s draw, Defender Babes got off the mark after losing their opening two matches as they beat Adorable Angels 36-33 to record their first win in the tournament.

Elsewhere, Seasiders Babes saw off Desert Queens 23-16 while Edo Dynamos overcame Imo Grasshoppers 18-15 and defending champions Safety Babes defeated former champions Plateau Peacocks 22-20.

Abudulmojeeb Mudashiru of De Defenders and Ada Okey of the Safety Babes were awarded the Most Valuable Player awards in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
