Premier League Review: Liverpool Strengthen Top Four Bid With Southampton Victory

Liverpool have strengthened their hopes of a top-four finish following their easy 2-0 win against Southampton in a Matchday 27 clash played at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday evening.

Little Egyptian magician Mohamed Salah teed up Roberto Firmino to give the Reds a 6th minute lead before the Brazilian turned provider for him to score his 22nd league goal of the season thus doubling Liverpool’s lead three minutes before the interval.

Jurgen Klopp’s men had numerous chances to extend their lead in the second half but they were a bit wasteful though it didn’t matter much after the match ended as a contest in the first half.

The win takes Liverpool (54 points) above Tottenham Hotspur (52 points) into third spot while Southampton (26 points) stay in the relegation zone.

In the earlier games played, Newcastle United stunned Manchester United (56 points and in 2nd spot) 1-0 at home to move out of the relegation zone into 13th position while Huddersfield Town are also out of the relegation zone into 17th spot following a 4-1 victory over Bournemouth (31 points and in 10th position) at the John Smith Stadium.
