Paying The Price! Carvajal Banned After ‘Deliberate Booking’

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has been given a one-game ban after Europe’s governing body, UEFA, found out that he deliberately got himself booked.

The incident involving the Spanish international defender took place in the last minute of his side’s 6-0 trouncing of APOEL Nicosia in a Matchday 5 clash on November 21.

He was said to have deliberately got booked for time wasting so that he could serve his suspension in his side’s dead rubber clash against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday and thereafter return for the first knockout stage with a clean bill of health on the disciplinary front.

UEFA has now decided to hand him an extra one-game ban for his playacting via a statement.

The statement read: “The Uefa control, ethics and disciplinary body has decided to suspend the Real Madrid CF player Dani Carvajal for two Uefa competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible.”

“Given that Carvajal did not participate in the match Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund played on 6 December, 2017, the player still has to serve one Uefa competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible.” the statement added.

Real Madrid will definitely know their first knockout stage opponents when the last 16 draw takes place on Monday and they will have to negotiate the first leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernebeu without Carvajal.
