Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has drawn level with fierce rival Lionel Messi on 5 Ballon d’or awards after he was named the recipient for 2017 on Thursday evening.

Ronaldo, who had previously won the award in 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2016, saw off the aforementioned Messi and PSG superstar Neymar to win the prestigious and highly coveted award.

The Portugal international captain was influential last season as he led his Real Madrid side to a UEFA Champions League (UCL) and Spanish La Liga double.
