CAFCC: Rangers Coach Ugwu Confident of Progression To Group Stage

Benedict Ugwu

Enugu Rangers caretaker coach Benedict Ugwu has assured the teeming fans of the club that his side has all the motivation and hunger to advance to the group stage of the 2019/2020 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Flying Antelopes face Togolese champions, ASC Kara in the playoff round for a place in the round-robin group stage, with the first leg billed for Lome on 27 October, while the second leg comes up a week later in Enugu.

In a chat with StarSports, Surugede expressed optimism on his side’s chances of qualifying for the group stage of the competition, adding it won’t come on a platter of gold.

“I agree perfectly that there is no small team any longer in African football, hence, we respect our opponent as champions of Togo league, but we have what it takes to overcome them and cruise into the group stage of the competition. Surely, it would be a tough encounter but we shall be in the group stage by God’ grace,” the former Nigeria international said.

Ugwu also added the Kara will not be underrated by Rangers when both sides clash later this month.

“There is nothing like underrating our opponent. They earned their place to contest in this round and we shall approach both legs with all the attention it deserves.”

Rangers reached the playoff round after a 4-3 aggregate win over Gabonese side, A.S Pelican, while ASC Kara dropped down to Confederation Cup after being knocked out of the CAF Champions League by A.S Vita Club of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
