NWPL Super 4: Bayelsa Queens Punish Nasarawa Amazons to Claim Fifth Title

Bayelsa Queens scored two second half goals as they punished Nasarawa Amazons for their defensive errors to lift the Nigerian Women Premier League (NWPL) title for the fifth time.

The girls from Yenagoa pounced on two misplaced passes – first from Okoye Ebere and then Ibrahim Mariam – to inflict a 2-0 defeat on Amazons who gave a spirited performance, albeit marked with errors.

The first half had been devoid of clear scoring chances as both teams could barely knit passes together but the game sprang into life in the first minute of the second half as Nasarawa’s Ebere Okoye inexplicably passed the ball to Bayelsa’s Uzoamaka Igwe who placed the ball into the top left corner.

Then 15 minutes later, Ibrahim Mariam did exactly the same thing when she made a weak clearance to the path of Bokiri Joy who finished cooly beyond goalkeeper Chukwu Uchenna.

Bayelsa Queens would then go on to claim their fifth NWPL title having previously won it in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007.
