NPFL: Akwa United “ready to put up strong performance” Against Kano Pillars

2017 Aiteo Cup Champions, Akwa United are “ready to put up a strong performance” against Kano Pillars when they meet on matchday 3 of the 2019 abridged season of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) according to Mfon Patrick, Media Officer of the Uyo based side.

Akwa United will be hoping to bounce back from last Sunday’s shock defeat to El-Kanemi Warriors where an Ojo Olorunleke ambitious move in the dying minutes of the encounter postponed Coach Raphael Everton’s joy at pitch-side.

Speaking to busybuddiesng.com during the first training session of the team at Kano, Mfon Patrick revealed the weather was favorable and pointed out that a win for the Promise Keepers at the Sani Abacha Stadium tomorrow, Sunday was not “impossible.”

“The weather here is friendly. It wasn’t like that when we came in but I think it’s okay now. In our last four meetings with Pillars, we have won three and lost one so the confidence is back.” He said.

“Despite the fact we lost our first game of the season, we are ready to put up a strong performance here and from what we have seen in the league this season, two teams have won away. Many teams have picked points away from home so it is not impossible for us to do same here in Kano” Mfon buttressed.

Mfon pointed out that the Sani Abacha Stadium is “familiar” ground and was hopeful of his side “walk[ing] away with three points.”

At the other end, Kano Pillars will seek to recover from their midweek loss to El-Kanemi Warriors when they welcome the Promise Keepers.

Akwa United sit eleventh while Pillars are fifth among the twelve teams in Group B of the NPFL table. A win for the visitors will gift them a move up Group B in the region of eight position.
