Copa Lagos 2019: International Beach Soccer Tournament Set To Kick off On 1st November

Nigerian beach soccer fans are in for a thrilling time with the 2019 edition of Copa Lagos – a top-flight international Beach Soccer competition – set to kick off on Friday 1 November.

The three-day tournament will see hosts and two-times African champions the Super Sand Eagles of Nigeria compete against defending Beach Soccer World Champions Brazil, European powerhouses England and five-times African champions Senegal in a round-robin festival of beach football.

Tournament organisers Kinetic Sports Management have promised a more interactive and immersive experience for fans at this year’s edition of the annual tournament which will take place at the Eko Atlantic Megacity.

Exciting innovations introduced to boost fan experience and drive engagement include a novel Copa Lagos mini-tournament, a celebrity match featuring some of Nigeria’s biggest names in sports and entertainment and a club challenge featuring some of the nations biggest beach soccer clubs.

The Copa Lagos mini-tournament will see 16 teams compete for a $1,000 prize and serve as a daily prelude to the main Copa Lagos matches of the day.

The celebrity match will pit some of Nigeria’s best-known names in the sports and entertainment industry together in what promises to be a fun-filled spectacle.

Former Super Eagles captain Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha headlines the stellar list of former footballing icons which include former African footballer of the year Victor Ikpeba, Victor Agali, Mutiu Adepoju, Ike Shorumu, Waidi Akanni, Ifeanyi Udeze, Wasiu Ipaye, Godwin Okpara, Segun Fetuga among others.

Musician Sound Sultan leads the celebrity team that will take on the ex-footballers with Sexy Steel, Josh2funny, Ehis of MTV Base, Mozez Praiz, Brian Clarke and Jennie also a part of the train.

Different fan experience centres from tournament sponsors FCMB, Pepsi and Bet King will also be at the Fan Zone to provide fans with games, food and drinks and lots of excitements.

The club challenge will feature three Nigerian club sides namely Pepsi Football Academy, Kebbi Beach Soccer Club, Gidi Sharks of Lagos and invited Ghanaian Club, Sunset Sports Keta.

Other events lined up to add colour to the Copa Lagos 2019 include an elaborate closing ceremony and an after-party at the close of competition on 3 November.
