NFF Crisis: FG Conveys Position To FIFA As Deadline Draws Nearer

The Federation Government of Nigeria (FG) has conveyed its current position on the ongoing NFF crisis to world’s football governing body, FIFA ahead of the August 20 deadline given to the country to put its football house in order.

FIFA gave Nigeria a one-week deadline to put an end to the aforementioned crisis via a letter sent to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) last week.

The NFF Crisis dates back to four years ago (2014) when two separate elections led to the emergence of the Amaju Pinnick-led board and the Chris Giwa-led faction.

FG’s message to FIFA was revealed by government aide Laolu Akande via his official Twitter handle.

According to Mr. Akande, the message conveyed to FIFA was that the Amaju Pinnick-led NFF is the current and only NFF Executive Committee (Exco).

Laolu Akande is the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

His tweet read: “The FG has already conveyed to FIFA its firm position recognizing Amaju Pinnick-led NFF as the current & only NFF Exco. Govt will also continue to work with all relevant stakeholders involved to resolve dispute in a timely manner. FG is upholding NFF treaty obligations to FIFA.”
