World number one Rafael Nadal is through to the 2nd round at the ongoing French Open after he saw off stubborn Italian player Simone Bolelli in their 1st round clash.

The 10-time champion defeated the world number 129 Italian 6-4 6-3 7-6 (11-9) as he survived a third set scare though he eventually overpowered his opponent despite being 3-0 down at some stage.

The Spaniard will next play Guido Pella of Argentina in the second round.

Nadal is joined in the 2nd round by third-seeded Croat Marin Cilic, who defeated Australia’s James Duckworth 6-3 7-5 7-6 (7-4) in their 1st round clash.
