Serena Williams Makes Successful Return To Grand Slam With French Open 1st Round Win

Former world number one Serena Williams has made a successful return to the Grand Slam at the ongoing French Open following her 1st round win over Kristyna Pliskova of Czech Republic.

The 3-time French Open champion defeated her world number 70 opponent 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 to advance to the 2nd round where she will face Australia’s Ashleigh Barty for a spot in the 3rd round.

The 36-year old was excited with her comeback while speaking after her match with Pliskova. The 453rd ranked player said: “Kristyna played really, really well.”

“I don’t know how many aces I saw during the match. I think there is a donation to charity for each ace, so both of us helped.”

Speaking further, Serena Williams said: “Two years is a long time but I’ve trained hard on this surface.

“I’m so glad to win a match here and I’m taking it one day at a time.” he concluded.

Serena Williams is working her way back to tennis reckoning after she spent some months away from the game to give birth to her first child.
