Rwanda took a big step towards the knockout stage after they defeated Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in their second Group C game played at the Stade Ibn Batouta in Tangiers on Friday night.
The 2016 CHAN hosts had earlier played a goalless draw with Nigeria in their first game at the ongoing tournament in Morocco and they further pressed home their quest for a top two slots from Group C.
Thierry Manzi headed home the only goal of the game midway into the second half for a 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea thus eliminating them from the tournament following a second successive defeat.
The win takes Rwanda to joint top alongside Nigeria in Group C ahead of their crucial final group clash with former winners Libya with a solitary point enough to take them through to the knockout stage.
