French Ligue 1 Review: Marseille Leapfrog Olympique Rivals Lyon Into Second Spot After Caen Win

Olympique Marseille have moved into second spot on the French Ligue 1 table after two second half goals helped Rudi Garcia’s men to a 2-0 win at Caen in a week 22 league clash on Friday.

Dmitri Payet (penalty) and Florian Thauvin scored in the 55th and 74th minute respectively to hand Marseille a valuable win in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification next season.

The win takes Marseille (47 points) above their Olympique rivals Lyon (45 points) into second spot thus moving within nine points of leaders Paris Saint Germain (PSG) while opponents Caen (27th) stay in 10th position ahead of the other fixtures on Saturday and Sunday.
