Samuel Chukwueze came off the bench for Villarreal to score his first goal of the season but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Yellow Submarines from losing 3-1 to Barcelona at Estadio La Ceramica on Saturday.

The Nigerian winger, just finding his feet this season following a long injury layoff, was introduced in the 65th-minute for Yeremi Pinto and drew Villarreal level eleven minutes later with his first league goal of the season.

The strike, Chukwueze’s third home league goal against Barcelona, meant he has scored more league goals against the Blaugrana at Estadio La Ceramica than any other Villarreal player.

Barca had taken the lead through Frankie De Jong’s well struck 48th-minute effort and following Chukwueze’s leveller, the visitors scored twice late on through Memphis Depay and a Phillipe Coutinho penalty to take all three points and hand new boss Xavi Hernandez a second consecutive win in La Liga.
