International Friendlies Wrap (Thursday): United Flop Depay Stars As Netherlands Edge Scotland In Advocaat’s Penultimate Game.

Former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay was the star attraction for the Netherlands as they secured a 1-0 win against hosts Scotland in what was Oranje head coach Dick Advocaat’s penultimate game in his third spell.

The Olympique Lyon man finished off a sweeping counterattack from the Dutch five minutes from halftime and that proved to be the only goal of the game to condemn Scotland interim manager Malky Mackay to defeat in what would likely be his only game in charge. The former Cardiff City and Watford boss is expected to return to his past role as the performance director for the Scottish Football Association (FA).

For Dick Advocaat, his last game would be Tuesday’s friendly game against Romania in Bucharest. The 70-year old replaced Danny Blind as head coach after the latter was dismissed earlier this year.

In the pick of the other friendly games, Kardemir Karabukspor midfielder Gicu Grozav scored twice for Romania in a 2-0 win over Turkey in the battle of two teams who failed to qualify for next year’s World Cup in Russia.
