Everton Reiterates Continental Target For Akwa United (AUDIO)

Akwa United coach Rafael Everton has reiterated his target to give the Promise Keepers continental football at the end of the 2019 NPFL season, stating that it is ‘possible’.

The 2-time AIteo Cup champions are currently top of Group B in the NPFL table with 28 points from 15 matches (same points with second-placed El-Kanemi Warriors), and remain in hunt for a spot in the season-ending Super 6 playoffs for the top three teams in each group.

“When I first came to Akwa (United), I told the media that my target for the team is to put them in continental football again,” the former FC IfeanyiUbah coach toldwww.busybuddiesng.com. “Because it is very possible for the team, it is very possible for me.

“I believe I can bring continental football to the team, it is the first target for me here in Akwa United.”

Asked if he is confident of delivering continental football at the end of the season, the 29-year-old Brazilian said: “Yes, yes. We will continue to work very hard. The boys play very well now. The team is doing well.

“We have scored so many goals (24), we play very good football. I believe, I believe it is possible. If we continue like this, we will achieve the target.”

Everton led FC IfeanyiUbah to the Federation Cup title (now Aiteo Cup) in 2016 before a very brief stint with Abia Warriors in 2018.

If Akwa United finish among the top three teams in Group B, they will participate in the Super 6 where the top two sides will qualify for the CAF Champions League, while the 3rd best team will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, along with the 2019 Aiteo Cup winners.
