Halep, Wozniacki To Contest Australian Open Final

World number one Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki will contest the Australian Open final on Saturday after they both recorded respective victories over their semi-final opponents.

Halep defeated 2016 champion Angelique Kerber 6-3 4-6 9-7 in a thrilling contest to secure her spot in the Australian Open final for the first time.

The Romanian will face Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, who had earlier beaten Elise Mertens in straight sets.

Wozniacki got the better of Mertens 6-3 7-6 (7-2) to book her place in the final.

Apart from the Australian Open title, the world number one ranking will also be up for grabs.

Speaking after her victory, Simona Halep said: “It was very tough. I’m shaking, I’m emotional.”

“I knew it was going to be tough. She’s a tough opponent who is moving well and hitting from everywhere. I want to thank everyone for supporting me and helping me.” she concluded.
