Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson is close to making a return to football with Welsh fourth-tier team Caerau.

This was confirmed by the club and that they are awaiting international clearance for the 49-year-old ahead of the game against Pontyclun on Wednesday, October 18.

Speaking about Merson, Caerau secretary Dai Hooper said:

“I texted him last week about the rearranged fixture with Pontyclun and he said ‘I can make that'”

“So we’re hoping now that the international clearance goes through because obviously he played in England.” Hooper further added.
