Okoye Clean Sheet As Sparta Rotterdam Rout ADO Den Haag

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka kept his second straight clean sheet on his fourth start for Sparta Rotterdam as they annihilated ADO Den Haag in the Eredivisie on Saturday.

The 21-year-old had come in for heavy criticism for conceding four times as Nigeria drew with Sierra Leone in a 2021 AFCON qualifier during the international break.

But he shook off the critical comments to keep a clean sheet in the return leg against Sierra Leone and has now kept back-to-back shutouts for club and country.

Okoye, who appears to have now claimed the number one jersey for club and country followed up his clean sheet against RKC Waalwijk before leaving for international duty with another shutout against ADO at the Sparta-Stadion Het Kasteel on Sunday.

There was no sign of the rout to follow after a cagey first half ended with a Lennart Thy goal the difference for the hosts.

But Sparta broke open the dam after the interval with five unreplied goals as they overwhelmed the visitors with waves after waves of attacking football.

Thy completed his double just before the hour mark, with his goal capping a blitz that saw the hosts score three goals in five minutes with Sven Mijnans and Abdou Harroui also on target.

A late Mario Engels double rounded off the rout for Sparta who moved into the top half of the table.
