FA Cup Review: Money Well Spent As Van Dijk Propels Liverpool Into 4th Round; United Also Through After Two Late Goals

Club record signing Virgil Van Dijk is an instant hero with Liverpool fans after he netted the winner in his side’s 2-1 win over Merseyside rivals Everton at home in their FA Cup 3rd round clash on Friday night.

James Milner gave the hosts a first half lead from the penalty spot after Everton defender Mason Holgate was adjudged to have fouled Adam Lallana in the box but that advantage was cancelled out by Gylfi Sigurdsson midway into the second half thus paving the way for Van Dijk’s thumping header six minutes from time to take the Reds through into the 4th round.

12-time champions Manchester United are also through to the FA Cup 4th round after two late goals from Jesse Lingard and substitute Romelu Lukaku gave the hosts a 2-0 win over English Championship side Derby County in their 3rd round clash at Old Trafford on Friday night.
