Italian Serie A Review: Late Simeone Strike Dents Inter’s Faint Title Hopes

Argentine forward Giovanni Simeone scored on the stroke of fulltime to all but end Inter Milan’s faint title hopes and rescue a 1-1 draw for his Fiorentina side in a week 20 league clash on Friday night.

Mauro Icardi had earlier given the away side the lead with ten minutes of the second half gone but Inter failed to hold on to that advantage as Simeone struck to deny Luciano Spalletti’s side the chance to significantly close in on the top two.

With the draw, Inter Milan (42 points) stay in third place while Fiorentina also stay in 7th spot with 28 points.

In the other Italian Serie A game played on Friday night, a Nenad Tomovic own goal cancelled out Ivan Radovanic’s early strike for Chievo Verona in a 1-1 draw with their guests Udinese.
