Djokovic Survives Fucsovics Scare To Book US Open Second Round Place

Former world number one Novak Djokovic overcame both New York humidity and a second-set scare from Marton Fucsovics of Hungary to seal a second round spot at Flushing Meadows.

The 31-year-old Serbian won his first round clash against Fucsovics 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-0 to seal his place in the next round as he bids for a 14th Grand Slam title.

Djokovic spoke about his struggles in the first three sets afterwards.

The sixth seed said: “I was praying that I got to feel better because I wasn’t feeling great for most of the first three sets.”

“I want to thank the US Open for allowing us to have a 10-minute break after the third set. We both needed it.” He concluded.

The two-time champion will meet American Tennys Sandgren for a place in the third round.
