Division 1 Volleyball: Kada, Kwara Maintain Perfect Start In Kaduna

Home side Kada Kings and Kwara United are still unbeaten after three matches on Day 2 of the ongoing 2021 National Division 1 Volleyball League in Kaduna state.

Kada Kings struggled initially but managed to prevail against Kastina United 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-13, 25-21) before easing past Oyo state volleyball team 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-20) at the indoor sports hall of Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS) in Kaduna on Tuesday.

Earlier, Kwara United were not at their best against Oyo state but still managed to win 3-1 (25-11, 23-25, 25-13, 25-17). Kwara United produced a stunning performance, coming from two sets down to beat JVC of Bauchi 3-2 (25-27, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-13) in an epic match.

Kwara United lost the first and second sets by two points but were able to recover in the third set, beating JVC of Bauchi by a 3-point margin (25-22). They proceeded to almost throw away the fourth set but were spared by the timely technical input of coach Wale Badamosi who called a timeout to recalibrate his players.

Speaking after the game, Badamosi commended his players for not losing belief after falling two sets behind.

Badamosi revealed that he told his players to give their best during the game adding that giving up was not an option.

He said, “I am happy and impressed with my players because they were very fit. We played in the morning against Oyo state and played in the evening; this shows the fitness level we have. The players camped for two months and trained a lot for this league playing a lot of friendly matches.

“I had every confidence and told my partner that we were going to win; it is not over until it is over. I told my players to enter the court and die there because we want to win all our matches and they played to instructions. We are going to play better in our subsequent matches throughout the league.”
