Africa’s number one ranked player Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan emerged champion of the 2019 Zambia International Badminton Championship defeating Egyptian second seed Doha Hany in Sunday’s final in Lusaka.
Top-seeded Adesokan started her campaign with a clear two set whitewash of Uganda’s Fatima Nabirungi 21-9, 21-6 before going on to dominate Egypt’s Jana Ashraf 21-13, 21-13 in the quarterfinals.
She followed up that win by dispatching yet another Egyptian in the semifinal with an easy 21-19, 21-16 win over former African champion and third seed Hadia Hosny.
Adesokan’s win set up a final encounter with yet another Egyptian, second seed Doha Hany who beat former African Champion Kate Foo Kune[4] of Mauritius 15-21, 21-13, 21-16 in the other semifinal.
The final game started with Dorcas narrowly losing out in the first game, 20-22 but the top seed rallied back to confirm her ranking and seeding by taking the next two games, 21-18, 21-18 to claim victory in the women’s singles final.
