Aiteo/NFF Award Winner Makes Shock Move to Swedish Club

Anam Imo Joins Swedish Club Rosengard

A Swedish Female football club, Rosengard has acquired the services of Anam Imo barely four days after she was voted Nigeria’s Best Female Player for the year 2018 at the Aiteo/NFF Awards Gala at Eko Hotels, Lagos.

Rosengard completed the signing of Nigeria striker Anam Imo from Nasarawa Amazons on a two-year deal owing to her speculative performance for the Nigeria Women Premier League side where she recorded eight goals to be the highest goal scorer in the female domestic league.

Anam equally played a part in the title success of Nigeria’s female national team at the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Ghana where she played a part.

Therese Sjögran, Sports manager of the Swedish Damallsvenskan side said, “Anam is a very exciting and young player. We have followed her for a while and she has special qualities that made us choose to recruit her. She has an incredible physics and a very good main game.”

She described the 18-year-old as an “uncut diamond” and highlighted how helpful her ability to play offensively and defensively will be to the club.

“She can both play wingback and forward, which gives us more choices in the squad. Should be interesting to see what she can do in the OBOS Damallsvenskan.”

Anam Imo joins Rita Chikwelu, Ogonna Chukwudi, Ebere Orji, Halimatu Ayinde, Osinachi Ohale, Faith Ikidi and Ngozi Okobi to increase to eight the number of Nigerian female footballers playing professionally in Sweden.
