The Nigeria National League (NNL) has released a revised league format and Match Day 1 fixtures for the 2018/2019 season which will kick off on Wednesday, April 10th, 2019.
Draws and fixtures had already been previously released for the league which was earlier scheduled to kickoff on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2019. However, following recommendations from the Football Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) at a meeting held in Lagos last week, it was decided that the start of the league should be moved up by a week and new draws for groups and fixtures held.
The loss of title sponsors Bet9ja just before the earlier proposed start of the new season was a major contributory factor to the postponement and revised league format with the cash strapped NNL having to appeal to the NFF for financial assistance until new sponsors are sourced.
It is believed that the revised groupings which places teams into eight groups as opposed to the four groups earlier drawn would help curtail costs and make logistics more manageable.
